loving christmastime

sophie is so excited about christmas this year. she's always loved it, of course, but it seems each year it gets better and better. she's been so thoughtful about choosing and making christmas gifts, and she can't wait to give them. she's also in school this year (she didn't start last year until january), so that's certainly adding to the anticipation as they learn new holiday songs and plan for their christmas party.

we've started our advent calendar, too. the kids take turns each day, and in each pocket is either a little treat, like a chocolate coin or tiny toy, or a note about an activity that we'll do that day, like taking a drive to see christmas lights.

sophie's school is also putting on a little christmas performance for all of the parents. it's just a short show with some songs that the kids have learned and a little reception with snacks afterward, but the teacher reserved space at the town hall for the event and the kids are awfully excited about it. sophie has even been given a little "solo" part with two other girls from her class. she's been practicing and practicing and can't wait for us to see it.

i love this time of year, and its so much more magical with kids to share it with!
